The Chair Yoga Certification is designed for yoga teachers, yoga teachers-in-training, Pilates & aerobic instructors and personal trainers with yoga experience; and experienced yoga students. Using a chair to support poses will improve any level of yoga practice. In this weekend participants will learn to use a folding chair as a beneficial tool for all level of students and particularly for those who have a difficult time taking the average yoga class. The chair is an excellent prop for maintaining stability and alignment for individuals who have physical issues due to weight, inflexibility, age, or various physical limitations. It is also excellent for moving more advanced students deeper into a wide variety of poses.
In this intensive training teachers and therapists will learn to bring the benefits of yoga to their students and clients by utilizing yoga poses, breathing and total relaxation with the support of folding and other types of chairs. In the Ha-Tha Yoga Method Training we place an emphasis on providing trainees with tools of knowledge and experience to better create a yoga class based upon their students physical, emotional and mental needs, whether novice, beginner, intermediate or advanced.
The weekend will consist of an introduction lecture with a PowerPoint presentation, group discussion and review of hand out material. This is followed by a 1-hour Gentle Chair Yoga class, which allows participants to experience the dynamics and flow of a class for seniors, broken bodies, and/or novice yoga students. This is followed by the breakdown of a series of yoga poses with interruptions for lecture, group discussion, teaching and learning hands on adjustments.
[After participants experience each pose and sequence of poses they have the opportunity to teach the poses to each other. In this way they retain the information by immediately putting it into practice.]
Sunday begins with a Vinyasa flow style class using the chair to demonstrate how it can be incorporated into moving from pose to pose. This is followed by a a series of more intermediate and advanced poses designed to take more able bodied students deeper into yoga poses. This day includes teaching, creating a one hour class sequence from what has been presented and hands on practice.
- In the Chair Yoga Certification participants will learn how to:
Teach up to 40 yoga postures using a folding chair.
Teach a one-hour therapeutic chair class for seniors & broken bodies.
Teach a one-hour vinyasa flow style class using a folding chair.
Choose appropriate postures to suit students individual needs.
Learn benefits, precautions and contraindications for each posture.
Learn the proper alignment for use with chair poses.
Learn how to sequence a gentle flow of poses to calm and focus the body-mind.
Leave the course with a written sequence of poses to begin teaching a class.
